English term or phrase: tensely coiled
"A small, tensely coiled man stalks in."
The character in this scene is a ruthless speculator.
All I've come up with so far is: ""Ein kleiner Mann unter Hochspannung stolziert herein."
(Definitely not: "drahtig".)

"angespannt" would be more a temporary state; "tensely coiled", as used here, is more an intrinsic characteristic.
