Sentence: All values on pig and vial labels are based on... I think the pig is the lead holder that the vial is placed into. The vial is for radioactive material, by the way.

Bleibehälter
Explanation:
You're right, the "pig", also called the "lead pig" or "shielded pig", is the holder that the vial is placed into. The German reference listed below includes a picture (if you're interested). I would use Bleibehälter rather than just Behälter as pigs may also be made of plastic (cf. reference below).

If the vial is to be kept in a container (such as a shielded "pig") label the outside of the container with the radionuclide, the original activity, the date of receipt, and the unique identifier number assigned in 6.5.2.

The lead pigs which contain your isotope vials are recyclable. In most instances, buildings where a hazardous waste room exist, a box has been place which is labelled for lead pig recycling. If not, simply place your lead pigs in a small box and submit it with your waste materials.
Some things you should know before droping off your lead pigs;
· They must be verified for contamination.
· Plastic pigs (made entirely from plastic) are not recyclable and may be presented as garbage. However, they must be free of contamination and radioactive markings.
