used to transport assembled automotive components (engines, injectors, etc.) to an on-load station from where they are loaded onto a testing line.

I don't know of a particular term applied to the whole phrase, but am willing to offer a suggestion:

In this technical or engineering context I suggest Montage for assembly, Matrix for matrix, and Ablage for tray, so the whole thing could read: Matrix-Montageablage, but if the matrix refers to the type of assembly, then maybe Montagematrix-Ablage.

Many thanks for your help. I had another few options in my mind, but finally decided to pass it back to the client, so for your information, they previously rendered matrix tray as Matrixpaletten in their documentation, not exactly the term I would have invented.
