English term or phrase: boring and drilling
Can anybody help me to understand the difference between boring and drilling?
I also have problems with the German words "aufbohren" und "abbohren".
Thanks in advance.

Explanation:
Boring (ausdrehen) is done typically in a vertical milling machine (Fräse) with a stationary work piece and a rotating tool bit (Drehstahl) or an a lathe (Drehbank), with a rotating work piece and a stationary tool bit.
drilling (bohren) is done typically with a drill press, using a rotating spiral drill, or drill bit (Spiralbohrer) held in a chuck (Spannfutter) and and stationary work piece or with a lathe, where the wokpiece is clamped in the chuck and turns, while the drill bit is held in a chuck mounted at the tail stock.
As it applies to a machine shop, boring is NEVER translated as bohen.

Explanation:
boring=s1.Bohren, Bohrung
2. Bohrloch 3.pl. Bohrspaene, Bohrmehl
II.adj. bohrend
drilling=1. Bohren, 2.pl.tech. Bohrspaene, Bohrmehl

bohren=bes.tech.1. aufbohren, innenausdrehen=bore
2. ausbohren, vollbohren=drill

The above two differences you'll find
in Muret-Sanders.
abbohren=civ.eng. test-drill

Hope this helps.

Explanation:
Boring is called 'ausschlagen' in German; it means removing some further material in an already existing hole.
