In English there is a difference between "optimal" and "optimized". The former means something "is at its highest/best possible condition/state" and the latter means that it "has been brought to its highest/best possible condition/state". With the latter, the emphasis is on the successful transformation process from not so wonderful to absolutely wonderful. The latter adjective is a stronger compliment on the engineers involved.

From what I can see, the same difference exists in German, so I would choose "optimierte" (30,000 Google hits)as you did.

As far as "energy density" goes, Ernst – Wörterbuch der industriellen Technik, agrees that the translation is "Energiedichte" but does not show the term "density of energy" at all.
