English term or phrase: mainfall
No context to speak of. This is part of a machine control system used to guide heavy construction machines such as graders. The system uses a laser mast to set and control the slope of the blade (cross slope and elevation). The mainfall does require calibration, which leads me to believe that it is some sort of a device. I also found a reference to a "mainfall interface cable" on the Web, but the closest German equivalent I've been able to find so far was a statement that the control system uses the longitudinal axis (Längsachse) of the grader as a reference point. Any heavy equipment/laser guidance control systems specialists out there?

German translation:2 links and a suggestion
Explanation:
I'm sorry that I can't give you a definite German term but I found two interesting references that you might find helpful.

The first one lists several cranes and mentions "mainfall" in connection to boom length. The second one contains German descriptions of cranes.

Due to the pictures and technical data from the first link, I think that "mainfall" refers to the "Spitze des Hauptausleger", however when reading both links you might come to another or better solution. You might also ring the Dutra Group as the certainly can tell you what "mainfall" refers to.

I hope that at least helped a little

Cheers
Claudia

You get an A for effort! Client defined mainfall as follows: 'Pitch. How far forward or backward something "leans" relative to vetical [sic!].'

Here is what that means, HTH

Explanation:
Mainfall Sensor

The Mainfall Sensor is mounted to the frame of the motor grader and measures the angle of travel of the equipment. The Mainfall Sensor is mounted to the hydraulic valve interface underneath the main frame that connects the front wheels to the cab.
The Mainfall Sensor is much like the Slope Sensor, using an electronic level vial to measure the angle of the motor grader as it travels.

As the grader moves up a hill, the Mainfall Sensor detects and measures the upward angle and transmits information to the control box so the leading edge of the blade does not dig into the ground.
