English to German translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering
English term or phrase: rake surface
Dies ist eine Fläche bei einem Werkzeug
Ina
German translation:Anstellwinkel, Spanwinkel, Anschnittwinkel
Explanation:
G'Day Ina, the "surface" has thrown me off the track a bit, because the rake of a cutting tool is normally an angle and not a surface. Therefore, if the text definitely calls for a surface and not an angle, I would translate it as Anstellfläche or Spanfläche, otherwise Anstellwinkel / Spanwinkel / Anschnittwinkel (take your pick, they are all correct) would be suitable. Mit diesem rake habe ich immer wieder Probleme. Ich kenne es auch nur als Anstellwinkel oder Spanwinkel, es kommte
aber immer wieder in Texten vor, wo man es nicht als Winkel übersetzen kann. Ich habe mich jetzt für Spanfläche
entschieden, weil es ganz gut in den Kontext passt. Danke

Explanation:
..as in 'to rake - streichen, harken, rechen'? More context is needed...

The above reference gives good explanations of these terms but unfortunately only in English. - It might help as background info though. -

rake probably comes from the German ragen. - Ernst gives "Schneidbrust des Gehwindebohrers oder Fräsers" = "rake" - rake surface or rake face appear to be the Fläche of the Schneidbrust - The design of this part of a cutting tool has an important effect on the size and shape of the chips.
