English term or phrase: cap welding
This is used on special ropes for mobile cranes. After cutting the rope, both ends of the rope must be cap welded so that inner and outer strands are welded together, preventing any movement between them.

Kappenverschweißen

Explanation:
So kenn' ich's zumindest aus der Kunststoffindustrie. Ob's bei Seilen anders heißt? Mal sehen, was die Kollegen sagen.

Die Enden von Seilen, Trossen etc. heißen auf Deutsch \"Tampen\". Also sollte es hier \"Tampen verschweißen\" heißen.

Such mal in Google nach +tampen +verschweißen
