English term or phrase: target pay zone...
Again from this text about oil/gas drilling:
The target pay zones are good behind pipe potential, which should be above the well-borne problems associated with the blow out.
What does "pay-zone" mean in this context? Since this profile is targeted to investors, does this mean they are lucrative? (or am I completely off here?)
Thanks for any help.

Explanation:
This is a geological term connected with oil drilling:

1. Pay Zone =Area of geologic formation that has gas storage capability. (National Fuel - Glossary)

http://www.natfuel.com/glossary.html

2. Glossary

pay - see pay sand.

pay sand - the producing formation, often one that is not even sandstone. Also called pay, pay zone, and producing zone.

pay zone - see pay sand

http://www.mms.gov/glossary/pa-pm.htm

3. Pay Zone - The stratum of rock in which oil and/or gas is found.

http://www.phillips66.com/newsroom/Glossary/glossary-p.htm

4. Eurodicautom

English Phraseology: prior to the 1930s,casing could be perforated in place by mechanical perforators, but the general unreliability of these devices was a natural deterrent to any type of set-through(casing set through pay zone)completion

5. Eurodicautom

English Phraseology some wells are completed barefoot, which means that the last string of casing is cemented into an impermeable cap rock above the production zone and the hole drilled into the pay zone is left uncased

Explanation:
Nutzungshorizont may be one possible answer.

It is the zone that has an ideal temperature for effective geothermal heat exchange (= pay zone).

I hope this helps. Look at the website and try to compare it with your own document. I am sure you will find the right translation in there.
