Explanation:
This is the new name for the Windows compatible installation assistant developed by MS. This little setup program used to be (and still is in some cases) called InstallShield.

I "always" refer to it as Windows Installer in my German translations.

Explanation:
This is, I believe, the most common phrasing in German. I have just completed the translation of a user manual (German-English), and the German source text would constantly refer to Installationsprogramm.
