schlaemmen, ausschlaemmen des Schleifmittels

Explanation:
This may be too colloquial. The word refers to the process of adding water and rinsing until smaller particles are rinsed out (then filtered for reuse). The process is based on different sedimentation rates for gem stones and additives.

Addendum: schlaemmen

Explanation:
The word 'Schlamm' means mud. The additive is whirled up in water and stays in suspension longer, forming a muddy liquid. This way it can be rinsed away.

Poliermittel-Spülung

Explanation:
Man entfernt dann
den Korund und reinigt die Steine. Zum Schluß wird Poliermittel (wie z. B. Chrom(III)-oxid Cr2O3) zugegeben. Nach
Spülen und Trocknen hat man die schön glänzenden Steine, die sich als "Handschmeichler" auf Mineralienbörsen
oder in Schmuckgeschäften ganz besonders gut verkaufen lassen.
