This is a very wild guess, Geri, but your sentence sounds like the "Japlish", I get frequently. "space place" does really not make much sense. So my gut feeling is that the sentence was changed and in this process warped. Maybe they wanted to say "place the spacer under the sensor".

Another possibility could be that they just want to keep as space under the sensor:
Unter dem Sensor einen ausreichenden Abstand einhalten.

Again, this is just guesswork, but I doubt that anybody can help you with this.

I think your guess is just perfect. From the rest of the context it should be so. As already said, it's "Taiwanese-English" and not really easy to understand and yesterday it was around midnight when that expression came up. :)
