English term or phrase: Screen wipe effect/screen wipes (computing)
This expression comes from the instructions (game configuration) for a computer game:

"Screen wipes: activates the screen wipe effect when changing from menu to menu"

There is no further description as to what this might look like. Are there any computer buffs out there who know if there is a German word for this?

Thanks a lot

Wischblende or Schiebeblende
Explanation:
If I'm not mistaken, "wiping" comes from film and television terminology and is similar to "fade". Richter, Fachwörterbuch Optik, Foto, Video lists the following:
Bildverdrängung, Schiebeblende, Verdrängung (with the explanation: Szenenübergang/video), Wischblende and Wischfunktion.
Überblenden / Überblendeffekt might be another choice, although I personally would probably tend to use Wischblende / Wischblendeffekt

If you want to see what these things look like, you can download screen savers with screen wipe effects from the following sites:

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much! I still haven't seen a screen wipe because it would have take too long to download at my connection speed - but the carribean music on the parrot screen saver page at least provided some light relief after 3 weeks of continuous North Wales rain!
