English term or phrase: dry trap silver
Dies kommt aus dem Bereich der Offset Farbdruckerei. Der ganze Satz lautet: The metallic colours are shown on the thumbnail to the right of each swatch where a dry trap silver is under-printed. Ich weiß zwar worum es sich handelt, hätte aber gerne eine deutsche Übersetzung für diesen Satz, insbesondere für den Ausdruck "dry trap silver". Kann jemand helfen? Vielen Dank im Voraus. wolfgang

Explanation:

There were no pertinent hits under Google, Alta Vista on Northern Light for any combinations with +trocken +druck +farbe nor with +druck +zweiten +durchlauf +farbe in German, but these sites in English came up using "dry trap", which sound quite similar to your translation text, but you already know what is meant by "dry trap silver" so they won't help much:

"Q: How do printers achieve all these metallic colours?
A: They are achieved with a double pass. Print a 877 silver first and dry trap 4 colour process on the second pass."

http://www.digitalcowboy.net/overview.html

"The Electric CoolAid Process Colour Selector has also introduced five colour metallic process. Every colour shown has a thumbnail that is underprinted with a dry-trap silver ink. So thousands of metallic colours can now be achieved with only one special fifth plate."

http://www.spos.com/school.html

"Dry Trap = a layer of wet ink being applied over a previous layer of dry ink in a separate run of the printing press. Dry trapping usually produces sharper images than wet trapping because subsequent layers of ink aren't diluted by prior wet or damp layers. Dry trapping is also more expensive because the paper travels through the press more than once."

If nobody can give you a German printing technology phrase, maybe you can explain it with something including "…vorher mit Silber… - … zweiter Durchlauf… - …zweite Farbe". Sorry, my German is not good enough to completely translate the sentence.

Thanks for your effort, Dan. I was hoping that there would be something directly equivalent available in German but there does not seem to be. Even my trusted Polygraph Dictionary for the Graphic Arts does not cover curlies like this. Thanks, wolfgang
