Aap kaise hain? Aapka 10-10-2001 ka patra mila. Use padhkar mujhe bahut khushi hui.

Explanation:
I have made some corrections on the previous answer.

1) Added the date of the letter at the appopriate place.
2) "...read it.". For 'it' the correct word is 'use' not 'usse'.
3) The translation is meant for someone who commands respect or is elder. For friends that would change to, "Tum kaise ho? Tumhara 10-10-2001 ka patra mila. Use padhkar mujhe bahut khushi hui.". Further if it is intended to a female friend, it would be, "Tum kaisi ho? Tumhara 10-10-2001 ka patra mila. Use padhkar mujhe bahut khushi hui."

Hope this helps :)

Aap kaise hain? Mujhe apka patr mila aur main use padh kar bara prasann hua.

Explanation:
You can also say:
Too kaisa hai? Mujhe teri chitthi mili aur padh kar bari khushi hui.

This is an informal style with friends and close people.

Aap/Too=You
kaise/kaisa=How
hain/hai=are
mujhe=I/to me
mili=have received
aapka/teri=your
patr/chitthi=letter
bara khush/prasann=very happy
padh kar=after reading

neutral  Anil Goyal: But use this informal style very carefully. It may be offending, if the person is not close enough. :)
