English to Hungarian translations [Non-PRO]
English term or phrase: crawdad or mudbug
These yabbies are a crustacean like a crawdad or a mudbug,... Yabby édesvizi rákot jelent. Elég hülyén hangzik tehát. "Ezek az édesvizi rákok a rákfélékhez tartoznak, akár a crawdad ????vagy a mudbug????. Mindez egy ausztrál természetfilmben szerepel. Elég lenne a latin nevük is.

édesvizi / folyami rák
Explanation:
A "mudbug", a "crayfish", a "crawdad" vagy "crawfish" mind ugyanazt jelenti:
édesvizi / folyami rák

"crayfish, crawdad (nn.), crawfish (n., v.)

All these are variant names for various freshwater crustaceans a bit like small lobsters. Crayfish seems to be the most common spelling (first syllable rhymes with ray), crawfish is a variant (possibly American in origin, whose first syllable rhymes with saw), and crawdad is a dialectal Americanism from west of the Appalachians (first syllable also rhymes with saw). To crawfish is a slang or dialectal expression meaning “to back off, to retreat.”

"Mudbug is also slang for crawdad, which is slang for crayfish, which is slang for lillobster"

"If you care to know, mudbug is another term for crawfish in Louisiana"
