The translation proposed, for example, would be OK between fairly intimate friends and implies only mild annoyance (if any). "Scemotto" is a slightly stronger version of "sciocchino" that might be appropriate in some contexts. However, the adjectives "sciocco" and "scemo" without a diminutive suffix can sound rude, so again the context is paramount. There are also many other possibilities (eg, a teacher speaking to a student who is deliberately misunderstanding a lesson might say "Non fare lo stupido"). HTH Giles |
