come il salice che si piega al soffio del vento, anch'io mi piegherò Explanation: Tough one this Timothy...what does your willow do? I've have it "bending" but perhaps it trembles - so "come il salice che trema al soffio del vento, anch'io tremerò". Angela |

saro' anch'io come un salice mosso dal vento Explanation: Are you at all thinking of Bob Dylan? Blowing as Angela says can be rendered in different ways depending how you mean it? To bend, as Angela suggests? To move in the wind as above? The Dylan song was translated, if I recall correctly, "se la porta il vento" but it would not do in this case, since the tree is very stable. saluti paola l m |

Come una canna che ondeggia al vento, così anch'io... Explanation: ...mi piegherò (will give in to events -- conveys weak will) ...seguirò gli eventi (will follow events -- conveys flexibility and open mind) ...non offrirò resistenza (will not resist events -- conveys resignation) ...or, in doubt, just Come una canna che ondeggia al vento (ondeggia is neutral enough, and definitely not negative) It really depends on the context. Come una canna al vento - Italian idiom, which I think matches the English willow blowing in the wind, i.e. following the trends (sometimes used in a negative sense, though, for someone who cannot decide himself and prefers to follow the main trend). The keys is in the "so shall I" bit, for which the right verb has to be chosen according to context, as the few suggestions given above. |
