Explanation:
Da come dice il testo ("cooling water) si intende sostituire il mezzo per il raffreddamento ... quindi mi sembrava logico non usare una circonlocuzione (fluido per lo scambio di calore, che fra l'altro è il mezzo che sottrae calore) ed invece usare "mezzo refrigerante", data che questa è la sua funzione.
