The Optical Sensors Laboratory (OSL), a multi-disciplinary group of 30 people working at the National Centre for Sensor Research in DCU, carry out research and development in the area of chemical sensors and biosensors. At OSL, the work done covers a broad range of activities from the development and tailoring of optical materials in which chemical and biological probes are immobilised, through to design and fabrication of sensor platforms and associated custom-designed electronics and instrumentation.
For many of our sensor applications, the deposition of a controlled volume of sensor 'ink', e.g. fluorescently-labelled antibodies, in a specific location on the sensor platform is key to the efficient operation of the optical sensor device. As a result, there is a need to investigate, compare and optimise our more key deposition techniques: *** pin-printing ***, dip-coating, stamp printing and ink-jet printing, for our sensor applications.
