Non capisco il significato di "ping" in questo contesto.

ping e' un comando che permette di stabilire l'esistenza di un collegamentro fisico tra due computer e che inoltre fornisce il tempo di risposta in millisecondi.

In italiano, anche se viene usato 'pingare' forse e' piu' corretto dire 'eseguire un ping'.

Il glossario microsoft lo traduce semplicemente così.
"Pingare" un host significa verificare, con l'aiuto di un programma, se un'altro computer collegato ad un sistema internet o un sistema di rete locale è raggiungibile oppure no.
