This tactic can be seen in television and the movies and it usually involves
two police detectives. The “bad guy” is tough, angry and demanding. He
yells and screams and often is physically threatening. However, the “good
guy” detective is friendly and appears to be almost protective. He wins
confidence through making the accused think he is a “friend.” They play their
own opposing roles, but are always working as a team to achieve the same
objective. Good Guy/Bad Guy roles aren’t just played out in police
headquarters, they’re also found in business offices everywhere. The key to
responding to a Good Guy/Bad Guy tactic is to recognize it and not be
intimidated. When you’re in that situation let them play their game and you
can respond unaffected by their tactics.
