The act of folding paper into shaped figures and ornaments is a rather straightforward definition of origami, in fact, origami literally means folded paper [...] It is almost certain that paper folding was not just an Asian craft, since there is documented proof that folded paper forms were in existance in the late 1400's in Europe. If we were to take the typical Euro-centric view of the world then it would be easy to say that paper folding developed independently East and West.

L'origine dell'origami giapponese è probabilmente la piegatura cerimoniale della carta, il noshi, che inizò in epoca Muromachi (1392-1573), quella dell'origami europeo è rappresentato da un piccolo uccello (Pajarita in spagnolo, Cocotte in francese) probabilmente nel sedicesimo secolo.

in quest'altro sito si parla anche di "Figure di carta piegata", ma non penso che sia chiarissimo per il lettore italiano, al contrario di "folded paper forms" per il lettore inglese

A cavallo tra il XVI e il XVII secolo la piegatura della carta è conosciuta anche in Europa, in particolar modo in Spagna e in Italia. Proprio nel nostro Paese, in quegli anni, si sviluppò un particolare tipo di plissettatura utilizzata per la piegatura di salviette e tovaglioli per impreziosire le tavole del Rinascimento.
Figure di carta piegata venivano anche usate dai prestigiatori per stupire l’ingenuo pubblico di allora.

Grazie 1000! Purtroppo non ho avuto modo di fornire la foto, comunque ho trovato molti riferimenti al mondo orientale quindi probabilmente l'ispirazione deriva proprio dagli origami. Grazie a tutti.
