English term or phrase: have a bit of a go at each other
What has to be realized is that counselling sessions with couples can get very heated, and counsellors can still show clients what can be done in a situation that is beginning to get out of hand.

therapist: OK, the two of you have had a bit of a go at each other. I want to call a halt now ..."

sempre la coppia in seduta terapeutica

attaccare, accapigliarsi, alterco...
Explanation:
queste le parole che mi sono venute in mente; to go at vuol dire attaccare; il contesto conferma questo significato, credo.
Buon lavoro

Cara Paola,

Explanation:
in my opinion, "sfogarsi" captures more the meaning in the phrase in question. Good luck, Pat C.
