in base all'Urban Dictionary, e a quello che si trova su Internet, sembra che "kicks" sia un sinonimo di "scarpe", il che avrebbe anche un senso nel tuo contesto: l'atleta in questione indossa scarpette bianche e abbigliamento/tutina colorata e pertanto è più facile identificarla quando sfreccia via (o così mi sembra di capire).

Non è poi da escludere che qualche casa sportiva abbia proposto una linea di scarpette dal nome "kicks" (anche se, in questo caso, il termine avrebbe dovuto essere in maiuscolo).
