Ladders shall be firmly secured, or tied off. If tied, the ties should be attached to the stiles of the ladder, not the rungs. While the ladder is being secured, it should be held firmly by another person.

Make sure there are no cracks, no loose/bent/missing rungs, no bent stiles (the outside uprights of a ladder), no warping or splitting wood, no corrosion (metal), no sharp edges. Are the footpads, caps and other rubber fittings OK?

I montanti e i gradini o pioli non sono la stessa cosa. I montanti sono le assi verticali a cui sono fissati gli appoggi per salire, quindi pioli o gradini. Vedi:
