Sto traducendo un romanzo in cui a un certo punto la protagonista dice

*His voice was tinny too, and sounded far away, like voices did all the time back in the days when all phones were analog and cross lines were common*.

Anche la sua voce aveva un suono metallico e sembrava molto lontana, come erano sempre le voci quando tutti i telefoni erano analogici e *cross lines* erano in comune.

Francamente non ho clues... ho consultato numerosi dizionari, comprese le tavole di un buon dizionario visuale, ma non ho trovato niente.

Asker: grazie laura, la risposta era più semplice del previsto. è solo che mi ero convinta che quel "common" fosse "in comune" e non "comuni"/"normali", e seguendo quella strada pensavo a qualcosa tipo il vecchio duplex (una linea divisa tra due numeri, e quindi in comune), ma non trovavo conferme.
