mah.... non è la Steller's Sea cow perchè quella è estinta. Siccome si parla di vita marina (sempre nelle Filippine), ippopotamo non mi suona neppure.... idee????

dugonghi e lamantini sono \"cugini\", appartenendo entrambi alla famiglia dei sirenidi, i lamantini sono più grandi: dugongo fino a 3 metri di lunghezza, lamantino fino a 5 (se ti può servire a collocare il tuo sirenide :) ).

Nell'indirizzo che ti ho copiato sotto sulle filippine, ho trovato questo termine. Si parla anche di mucca marina.
"...Branchi di pesci guizzano tra le barriere coralline visibili a occhio nudo e non sono poche le possibilità di incontrare il dugongo e il lamantino, uno degli animali più schivi e difficili da vedere: un mammifero di dimensioni ragguardevoli (in inglese è anche noto col nome di sea-cow, mucca marina) ma del tutto inoffensivo."

agree  Christina Townsend: yes, in Central America for sure I heard them called "manatees" (also lots more hits for manatee)
