English to Japanese translations [Non-PRO]
English term or phrase: smart ass
during e-chatting
walter
Japanese translation:かまととめ
Explanation:
"Kamatoto”is originally meant to pretend to be innocent in the nuance of "shrewed fellow," perhaps reverse to smart ass. In such a case, "Totokama" will do (very colloquial, though).
By the way, I'm not so sure "ass" is "donkey" or "butt"

(uruse-) shiranai mono ka

Explanation:
(うるせー) 知らないものか
(Shut up) Do you think I don't know?

In the dictionary (ALC) there is

smart ass
切れ者、kiremono = clever clogs

知ったか振りをする人
shitta kaburi wo suru hito = someone who pretends to know when they don't

But neither seemed appropriate so I would go for "shiranai mono ka (yo)," = Do you think I don't know!?

ProZ.com Staff: "uruse-" (extended like "say") is commonly used, in Tokyo, when "smart ass" might be used by an American.
