habet res acta caput Explanation: Matthew Gwinne's Nero (1603) I thought about this possible Latin sentence on the basis of an Italian saying in my family which is an exact translation of this latin sentence. So I did a Google search with "res acta" and "caput" and came up with this verse from an Elizabethan play in Latin. The closest meaning is "what is done is done" which is not far from "so be it". hope it helps. Paola Ludovici MacQuarrie |
