Yes, you're right. I've never heard of the word tawas and didn't realise that it is actually a Malay word so I only checked the English dictionary but of course it wasn't there. And as you suggested, since "alum" is bilingual but "tawas" is purely Malay, the latter is a better choice.

I will inform my client that they should be using "alum" in the English text instead of "tawas".
