Dear Farah,

It indeed was kind of you to have promptly responded to my question about "girlfriend". Your explanation is succinct and leaves the user to judge the area of application. Other answers were fine but were confined to art or spiritualism. The word girlfriend is a difficult one as there is no place for this rather modern kind of relationship in Iranian culture.

Thanks indeed and with kindest regards,

Kulwant

"Shadow-sharer" - hamsaar

Explanation:
Greetings / salaam...

If I may add to the previous post...

A figurative literary term for someone who is so very close to you that your shadows literally blend is "hamsaar" or "the one who shares your shadow"

My kind Iranian informants advise that this expression invokes a spiritual and religious context, but their (fairly-consistent) explanations are beyond this inquiry.

HTH.
