Thanks for your explanation. I just asked two questions in my previous post and wanted to know what you call "Azadi Terminal" in Farsi as a native Farsi speaker and what you see on the tickets and buildings. Thanks anyway.

I mean Simon could have simply used bus terminal which in that case yours would fit quite smoothly into the context. I believed the term intercity to play a significant role in the question and tried to bring it to the TT.

The thing is that I have taken Intercity into account, while the term intercity may not be used much frequently in English and bus terminal may be used instead. That's why I have inserted بین شهری to highlight the difference between بین شهری and درون شهری.
If you take پایانه مسافربری شرق which is located in the east of Tehran at Serahe Tehranpars (Tehranpars T-Junction) you will notice the point that I am trying to make. The place is used to refer to both intercity and intracity bus station. You can find buses moving to other cities, mostly to Mazandaran, and BRT buses which only travel inside the city. both are referred to as پایانه مسافربری شرق, though there is a small tendency to call the latter as استگاه بی آر تی. The same is true with Azadi.

I hope I have illuminated enough to get my massage across. I cannot explain more clearly.

Thank you Younes. I suggested one answer and it is "پایانه مسافربری", your suggestion is word by word translation of the term asked by Simon and has "ایستگاه" which is totally incorrect. It is correct that in Azadi Terminal there are taxi, van, etc but it doesn't mean there are these kinds of vehicles in other terminals. The fact is that we always use "پایانه" or "ترمینال". What do they write on their tickets or buildings? "پایانه مسافربری" or "پایانه اتوبوس بین شهری"? Take Azadi Terminal into account, what do you call it in Farsi? "ترمینال/پایانه آزادی" or "پایانه اتوبوس بین شهری آزادی"?

Dear Mohammad,

I never said that your suggestions are not used. The point that i am trying to make is that the term you've suggested are general and include bus,taxi, and vans in a terminal. If you consider Azadi Terminal you can clearly see that all those vehicles are used in transferring passengers from Tehran to any other city. Actually I have taken Simon's point into consideration while submitting my answer. He asked about a bus station which is used between cities.

Dear Younes, the first two URL are personal weblogs and your fourth URL doesn't work on my system! What I'm trying to say here is that we don't have collocations like "پایانه اتوبوس بین شهری بیهقی", do we? instead we have "پایانه مسافربری بیهقی" and always we use the simple equivalents. It is true about other places, in Esfahan we have "پایانه مسافربری صفه" and "پایانه مسافربری کاوه" NOT "پایانه اتوبوس بین شهری صفه" and "پایانه اتوبوس بین شهری کاوه".

For درون شهری we usually use bus station, this is while for بین شهری we use bus terminal for example Azadi Terminal.
