English term or phrase: assault
In a sentence: "Assaults are the homicides of tomorrow"
Michał Madaliński
Local time: 08:18
pobicie
Explanation:
In line with the meaning given in the first answer (escalation of violence), "pobicie" is more specific and more in line with the legal term of homicide. Assault is short for "assault and battery".
We could also say "naruszenie nietykalności fizycznej", but it would be a little too heavy for such a short sentence.

"Napad" and "przemoc" are too general in this context, where we have a juxtaposition of two criminal acts distinguished by their gravity.

Bardzo dziękuję, kontekst wypowiedzi był "zbliżony do kręgów prawniczych" (rozmowa dwóch policjantów). 'Pobicie' mi tu doskonale pasuje.

Atak lub Przemoc

Explanation:
Even though assault could be translated as -napad- I think that Atak or Przemoc would convey the message better since those two words include all kinds of violence or assult.
