(there is a term in a dictionary - potykac sie w turnieju) - I'm looking for a shorter and more accurate word

walczyc
Explanation:
Istotnie, "potykac sie" wymaga odpowiedniego kontekstu (np. "na udeptanej ziemi" albo "z Krzyzakami").
"Walczyc" jest rzecz jasna najprostszym i najbardziej neutralnym synonimem.

pojedynkować się (na kopie)

Explanation:
to be exact:

JOUST = a combat between two mounted knights tilting against each other with lances. A tournament consisted of a series of such engagements.

(Collins English Dictionary)

As you can see, this single word carries the message not only about two knights fighting "POTYKAĆ SIĘ W TURNIEJU" but also there are horses (MOUNTED) and lances involwed (KOPIE).

So the most exact and accurate translation would be:

Potykać się konno na kopie w turnieju rycerskim

As far as I know, there is no shorter way to say this, unless you are willing to sacrify the meaning...

So, it's either meaning or shortness - you can't have both...

Hope it helps, Ivona
