Explanation:
When a company purchases an asset, it has its initial value. As the time passes, the depreciation is deduced from the value. The carrying value (WARTOŚĆ KSIĘGOWA/BILANSOWA)is the value shown in the books and the balance sheet.

It is very different from real market value of the asset.

For example. The annual depreciation rate of a van is 20%. After 3 years the value of the same van in the books (balance sheet) is 40% of the initial value. Much less than its market value.
Taking the example to the extreme, after 5 years the carrying value of the van (in the books) = 0.
