For Working in Voids, the following procedures must be followed:

1) Only trained and competent personnel are to undertake working in voids.
2) Ensure that a suitable and sufficient Risk Assessment has been completed for the Task.
3) The individual that is to undertake the task has to be suitable, i.e. not too large for the void.
4) Any medical conditions that affect the individuals ability to work in the void should be made aware, e.g. Claustrophobia, Asthma.
5) Inspect the area first, before going into the void. Check that the access is the best it can be and look for any objects that could cause injury, e.g. sharp edges, broken cable.
6) Make sure that once someone is in the void the access panel cannot be blocked; restrict access to the area if necessary.
7) The equipment that is to be used should be suitable for the working conditions.
8) Make sure that there is sufficient lighting available within the void.
9) Beware of sharp surfaces, hot surfaces, broken cables, or any other potential hazards.
10) Take regular breaks out of the void and ensure that there is plenty of refreshment available.
11) Wear appropriate PPE.
