English term or phrase: UWAGA
Szanowni Koledzy!
Dwie sprawy (nie do tlumaczenia!):
(1) Jednemu z zadanych ostatnio pytan KudoZ, na ktore wplynelo kilka odpowiedzi, towarzyszyla uwaga zadowolonego pytajacego: "I wish I could grade you all". Kwestia ta byla ostatnio przedmiotem dyskusji w gronie koordynatorow poszczegolnych sekcji jezykowych (zwanych moderatorami) i chcialbym, przed wrzesniowym zjazdem ProZ we Wloszech, zapytac czy uwazacie, iz w wyjatkowych przypadkach przydatna bylaby funkcja (a) podzialu oceny np. na dwoch odpowiadajacych, (b) przyznania wiecej niz 4 punktow za wybitna odpowiedz (tzw. supergrading). Mile widziane beda odpowiedzi na to pytanie KudoZ, zwlaszcza w j. ANGIELSKIM. Niestety najwyzsza liczba punktow, jaka zostanie przyznana "zwyciezcy" wynosi 1.
Wszystkim zycze natomiast milego dnia i pozdrawiam

Can you say how the points should be splitted?

It's not so easy, though!

Explanation:
1) In my opinion, the option of sharing points would be fair, as sometimes all the answers are equally good, sometimes each is good only partially.

2) It seems to me, that a "comment" option should be added to "agree/disagree". Sometimes only a comment is needed and it is impossible to do it, so one has to post a [comment].

3) It is NECESSARY to have an option for "handling" aggressive boorish persons who post loutish comments of the type "disagree, while it is gibberish" (it never happened in the Polish community!)

Explanation:
It would be also nice to have a possibility of simply closing the question WITHOUT giving the points to anybody. It happens sometimes that the question remains open while there was no proper answer given and/or the asker doesn't need it any more.

Natalie,

Since I cannot reply to my own question, would you be so kind as to post the following comments to your own remarks:

Re 2) I agree but I think it may be unrealistic to request. I also, at times, want "just to comment", but then I tend to "agree" and comment anyhow. Otherwise, feel free to come up with a new "answer" if you have a more substantial comment to make.

Re "jeszcze cos". Don't forget you have a "decline" option whereby you can decline each and every answer you get. Otherwise, feel free to assign just 1 point to avoid having too many unanswered questions as that would eventually block your capability of asking any new ones.

splitting the winnings/supergrading / negative points

Explanation:
SPLITTING THE WINNINGS

That's a hard one.

If there are two good answers, should they get 2 points each? If they are helpful, correct, provide references?

Do not they both deserve to be graded at 4 points? Both helpers worked hard to provide answers, didn't they? Why should they be equalled to a helper who contributed less?

Actually, both awarding points to more than one answer and supergrading will lead to increased KudoZ earnings. However, as long as all members are subject to the same rules and conditions, the overall picture in the rankings should not change drastically.

The question is then:
What are we trying to achieve? How will the intended change improve ProZ.com? Are there going to be negative side effects?

SUPERGRADING

Personally, I do not think that supergrading would add anything new to the whole picture.

The 1 to 4 scale is clearly laid out, and the question is, what criteria would the answer have to meet in order to get, say, 5 points?

NEGATIVE POINTS

Maybe we should introduce negative points as well?

One of the questions asked recently received three answers:

ANSWER 1 from one helper
ANSWER 2 from another helper
and...
ANSWER 3 = ANSWER 1 + ANSWER 2 from a third person

AN ANSWER COMBINING TWO PREVIOUS ANWERS!!!

That's a clever trick!

Negative points, please!

I know that I am taking this to the extreme here, but surely this is not fair play...

I could not agree with Jacek more on this:

If one has no contribution to make, other than shuffling comas and reordering words, they should save the kilobytes of web transfer!! If they still feel like contributing, let them push agree/disagree button! PERIOD!!!

Thanks and happy KudoZ to you all.

Explanation:
Again, since I cannot reply to my own question, could you, Natalie, post this for me, please:

Thanks for pointing out to me that interesting Vlasov thread.

The idea of supergrading and/or splitting points has met with a strong opposition within ProZ, but I would like to point out just one thing: It was meant to be totally OPTIONAL and those who proposed it estimated that 95% of askers would never bother to use it anyhow. The idea was to satisfy those few askers who are sometimes so grateful and/or impressed by an answer that they would like, but never have to, either award extra points to someone (subject to other 2 ProZ members supporting that initiative each time) or split the 4 points they have at their disposal. Fair enough?

Jacek
