how to differentiate this form drop forgings? The Technical Dictionary renders both as "odkówki matrycowe" but I need to give distinct names to the two

Yes, indeed they are both called ODKUWKA MATRYCOWA = DIE FORGING.

The difference is in how the forging force is applied.

KUCIE NA PRASIE, ODKUWKA PRASOWANA = Press forging (Impression forging) - instead of forcing hot metal into a die with a hammer blow, it is pressed into the die with hydraulic pressure.

Roll forging - The hot metal is pressed between two rollers.

Cold forging - For smaller pieces, the metal can be pressed into the die without heating it significantly ahead of time.
