DEFEATABLE INTERLOCK SAFETY SWITCHES

Underneath each scanning bed access panel is a three-position, plunger style safety interlock switch (See Appendix A, Figure A-1, Internal Label.) While fully depressed during normal operation and access panels in position, power may be applied to the scanning bed and the laser may be turned on. When either access panel is removed, a spring-loaded plunger will automatically move to the middle position, effectively removing power to the scanning bed and turning off the laser.

Pulling both plungers all the way up and exposing the colored stripes at the base will manually defeat the safety switches. While both are in this position, power may be applied to the scanning bed without the access panels or protective housing in place and the laser may be turned on.
