English term or phrase:cold calls
"As a sales professional, she has made over a quarter of a million COLD CALLS, which led her to become the number one revenue producer at each corporation where she sold."
"Sales is an emotion-driven profession. It is laden with relentless COLD CALLING, endless sales meeting, and tenacious follow-through."
Explanation: According to Chambers: "a call that involves contacting people thought to be potential customers, without the contact having been prearranged". I think it doesn't refer only to telephone contacts.
Explanation: A marketing technique, where the call-center operators phone everybody in a data base, which may even be a phone book, to sell or advertise a product. It's a bit like the unsolicited e-mails that we keep on getting into our mail box, usually called spam mail, and that normally get deleted.
