I know that in testing, blank can mean "prova em branco", among others, which means, according to the Brazilian Pharmacopeia: "repetir a determinação em condições idênticas e com quantidades idênticas de reagentes, omitindo-se, apenas, a substância em exame". But this is not the case here.
