English to Portuguese translations [PRO] Medical
English term or phrase:Breath Test
We have received a translation of the English term "Breath Test" from our Portuguese translator as "Teste Respiratório (Breath Test). Please confirm that the use of the English term in brackets is an accurately used and researched medical term for the (European) Portuguese language.
Thank you very much!
Explanation: The expression doesn't sound very good. However, that depends on the context. Can you be more specific/detailed (i.e., writing the whole sentence)?
In French, it may be called "test respiratoire".
If it concerns someone who was drinking and driving and was required by the authorities to do a "breath test", then it is called "TESTE DE ALCOOLEMIA".
As I said, please supply more information.
Explanation: This is the translation in the current language in Portugal. Everyone says "soprar no balão" (blow into the breathalyser) but it can also be called "teste de álcool". The actual machine, to test the level of alcohol, is called "Bafometro". Hope this helps.
Explanation: Em contexto jocoso usa-se o termo teste do bafômetro (Brasil)

Explanation: well in my opinion the term is correct if applying in medice area like if you are refering to some breathing test for asthmatic deseases etc.
Otherwise the other collegues sugestions are correct for european portuguese.
Explanation: Parti do princípio de que se trata de um termo de medicina. Em tempos precisei de fazer e traduzir um «breath test» e foi este o termo que utilizei.
No meu glossário encontrei "breath alcohol test" para o tal «teste do balão», como é chamado em Portugal.
Espero não ter desajudado...
