English term or phrase: automatic reply
Could someone please translate this into European Portuguese for me? I need to put it in my e-mail vacation option. I don't know a peep of Portuguese...

This is an automatic reply. I am out of town or otherwise unavailable. I will read your message when I return. Thank you.

Explanation:
Esta é uma resposta automática. Estou fora da cidade ou indisponível por outra razão. Lerei a sua mensagem quando do meu retorno. Obrigado.

Although the other colleague's reply is in fact what we use for answering machines, the option I offer is a literal translation of your vacation message.

It portrays, in my opinion, a more accurate rendering of what you wrote. The collleague only says you are away and will reply to the message when you get back, which is not what you wrote.

Feel free to ask for clarifications, should you need any.

Good luck!

"Obrigado" for the literal translation. I need it for my e-mail, not for the answering machine. If I don't know Portuguese, how could I have possible recorded all that myself? I don't know how to pronounce it.

Isto é uma resposta automática......

Explanation:
Isto é uma resposta automática. Neste momento não posso ler a sua mensagem, mas logo que possível responderei à sua mensagem. Obrigado.

This is more or less what we use for answer machine messages (phones) . I wrote the same message, changing \'I can not answer you call\' for \'I can not read your message\' and I will reply to you as soon as I can...Thanks

Explanation:
This is what I meant.....to write that message for your automatic reply message.....
I've seen people saying 'I am going to be out of town for the next 5 or x days and ....(sometimes not on vacations but on business trips)...blabla, as an automatic reply, after all it is the same meaning: I am unavailable and will reply as soon as I can or I am back.(from out of town, from vacation, from a business trip, whatever)

If you really want to make sure people know you are on vacation, then you can also say it in portuguese in your message.

Bye
Rita
