English term or phrase: "front end" and "back end"
RT: Making clean water for drinking, for human consumption. In water treatment there are two major categories. You have, what I call, 'front end' and 'back end': back end is the result of front end. You have water coming in which typically needs to meet certain purification requirements, either for drinking water requirements or for industrial processes, such as pharmaceutical, semiconductor, food and beverage industries.

Portuguese translation:(several solutions below)
Explanation:
I've been searching around but I didn't find a specific term, therefore I think there are several pairs of words that can fulfill this meaning (since the meaning of "front end" and "back end" is quite clear):<br>
<br>
"entrada" and "saída"<br>
"extremidade de entrada" or "extremidade de saída"<br>
"extremidade inicial" and "extremidade final"<br>
"estágio de entrada" and "estágio de saída"<br>
"estágio inicial" and "estágio final"<br>
<br>
Anyway I think "entrada" and "saída" are perfectly easy to understand in the machinery context!

Refere-se a "entrada e saída" dentro de um estágio de um sistema, que poderia ser inclusive finceiro, no caso de aplicações finaceiras em fundos mútuos...
