English term or phrase: lay back down
we laid back down
Wiliam Maluly
Nós deitamo-nos/recostamo-nos
Explanation:
The first translation (deitamo-nos) is more used when you lay down in bed, or on the ground, a totally horizontal position. The second suggestion (recostamo-nos) is more used when you lay against something like a couch, for instance, you are very tired and you lay down on a couch, you are not tottally in an horizontal position.
Hoping to have helped, Janeck.

fizemos corpo mole

Explanation:
lay back = folgado
down = acentua o sentido
"ficamos bem folgados" é outra opção, depende do contexto.

deitar-se de costas

Explanation:
Como já foi dito, depende do contexto.
No entanto, parece-me que esta tradução se aplica melhor ao exemplo dado:
"we laid back down" => "deitámo-nos de costas"
