Qual é a tradução para "gathering darkness"? Muito obrigado desde já.

The sun has passed from the lake, and as we sit in the gathering darkness voices fall silent and the evening chill descends on us. My grandson has clambered back up into my chair and lies sleeping against my chest; I have wrapped my arms about him against the cold, and we rest in a bonded warmth in the darkening night air.

Há várias possibilidades aqui:

o sol deixou o lago para trás e ao sentarmos na escuridão que se forma, (ouvimos) vozes (que) silenciam e o frescor vespertino abate-se sobre nós/somos abraçados pelo frio vespertino.

o sol passou pelo lago e ao sentarmos na escuridão que se aproxima, vozes silenciam e o frio/frescor abate-se sobre nós.

To me, there is a pause after "darkness" that could be marked by a comma.

There's a technical name for this (my poetry classes were almost half a century ago): the author shifts a common expression "gathering storm" = "tempestade que se aproxima/forma"...
to "gathering darkness" = escuridão que forma/aproxima
