English term or phrase: graded-index fibre
Step-index fibres with core diameter of 100 or greater are best suited for continuity testing of bare, unterminated fibres. 50mm graded-index fibre may be used, but then the received power is considerably reduced, and the range of the instrument is correspondingly smaller.

Stealing a little from Telesforo Fernandez - \'fibra de índice gradual\' would also work and in fact seems to be the more common term.
