Deci nu e neaparata nevoie de 'dune', iar in romana se poate folosi ca atare (daca registrul o permite, adica daca e un limbaj nu foarte oficial).

Depinde foarte mult unde este folosit termenul de dune buggy, deci ar fi util sa precizati contextul in care il utilizati.
Daca ne uitam mai atent la definitia data de adami, observam ca buggy este generic un vehicul usor, iar dune buggy este un tip special de buggy adaptat pentru desert, (de obicei cu pneuri supradimensionate si suspensii alungite) deci "dune" este neaparat necesar pentru a specifica TIPUL de buggy la care se face referire.
De asemenea, daca se traduce cu "vehicul de desert", este un termen mult prea general si poate sa acopere orice de la o motocicleta la un transportor blindat.
In plus, referinta cu vehiculele de desert nu prea are relevanta. "Seful" cere transportoare blindate, care in nici un caz nu se incadreaza la categoria "buggy". Probabil ca va gandeati la un echivalent militar al dune buggy, care este FAV - Fast Attack Vehicle / Desert Patrol Vehicle.
