Your two versions were first to give me an exhaustive answer. Context is a really tricky thing, so the more ideas you have the better. Thank you very much.

Mirriam Webster dictionary gives the following explanation for the term
match·book

sorry, I think I cannot help with the Russian version yet... :-(

spichechnaya korobka or korobka spichek

Explanation:
A matchbook is a small folder or envelope containing rows of paper matches. Maches in Russian are wooden and are sold in boxes. Paper matches are sold in matchbooks, each containing 20 or more matches. You can get them for free in any hotel, restaurant, gas station, etc.

I guess that is the only meaning of the word 'matchbook', and it is used not only in journalism...

bloknot s otryvnymi listami?

Explanation:
I am just guessing. Trying to imagine how one thing could have acquired a meaning of something else. A matchbook is so that one can tear one match at a time so maybe this is the key. Maybe not.
Perhaps you can give us a sentence where it is used or a context. This would help.
Or maybe it is just a "spichechnii buklet" like people suggested already.

картонный пакетик с бумажными спичками

Explanation:
kartonny paketik s bumazhnymi spichkami - (Galperin English - Russian Dictionary). Though my friend journalist proposed a different answer, I am not sure the above suggestions are wrong. See below what I found on the web - Anatomy of a matchbook. Apparently, a matchbook is now a collectable, and libraries even may keep collections of the most interesting ones.

Миниатюрный формат

Explanation:
I'm sure you don't need anyone to tell you what a regular matchbook is. As far as the matchbook format - I've come across that expression in the past, so I think Gala's first suggestion was correct. I guess I'm not the only one who's always second-guessing himself. Good luck!

1. отрывные спички (otryvnye spichki) 2. путевой блокнот (putevoy bloknot)

Explanation:
Journalists, reporters, mass-media, TV and etc. people are at a loss.
Is the context really so scarce?
They wish it could be more extensive.
Thank you
